7th Grade Art

The 7th grade art class will cover several things though the year.  They will write a poem and paint a picture to illustrate their poem.  They will learn the rules of 2-point perspective.  They will learn about George Seurat and Pointillism.  They will do a color study that will not only introduce them to new color schemes, themes, and theories, but will also review, thus reinforcing color schemes, themes, and theories already familiar to them.  They will be given an opportunity to do linoleum block prints and to work with clay.  Many of the other lessons that will be done will be dependent on the students themselves. I will ask for input from the students at the beginning of the year from the students and will will attempt to do their suggestions. Students quizzes and rubrics which will be provided on all projects.  All Jr. High students are also asked to sign a contract at the beginning of the year explaining the rules, discipline procedures, and expectations of the class.

8th Grade Art

The 8th grade art classes will cover several things through the year.  They will learn the rules of 1-point perspective.  They will write a two page paper on “ What is Art to You”.  They will do a Batik  project on silk rings using cloth dyes.  They will study figure drawing using live models.  They will do self-portraits and facial enlargements.  They will do some sort of collage and work with clay.  They will also do a color study.  As a final attempt to keep them interested in art before they get to high school, we will also view portions of a video and discuss the many jobs/careers that might be associated with a degree in Art. The students will also be asked to give input on projects they would like to do and we will make an attempt to do those projects.  We will have quizzes over material that we cover.  Every lesson will be graded using a rubric. All Jr. High students are asked to sign a contract at the beginning of the year explaining the rules, discipline procedures, and expectations of the class.
